Yiannis Ploutarhos is the incarnation of the American dream in Greece. This is how he is usually mentioned to by the Greek Press. A low profile but strong minded teenager who decided to leave the village, where he was living, and come to Athens with his "cases packed with dreams". Singing seems to be his great love from his early years. However in Athens he starts working in a hair salon. Despite his parents' opposition towards him becoming a singer, he follows his dream with faith and in 1998 he has his first cd released. In 2000 there are two more: Ipirhan Orkoi (There were vows) and the Kalytero Paidi (The Greatest Guy). This is exactly when the American dream becomes a reality: new hits such as Mikres Fotografies (Small pictures) and Ah Koritsi mou (Oh my girl) make him a big star, so he is able to book bigger night halls, and his cd's reach such a sales figure that they become platinum. So Yiannis Ploutarhos becomes the prince of Athens' night life. He is a big star, but a decent man and an honest father and husband. His life is deprived from scandals and all the stuff of a celebrity's life.

He is modest, a low profile person, and audacity is not one of his characteristics. He still looks like the 16 years' old boy who left the village with a case packed with dreams! He continues to be, after his big success, simple, approachable, and enjoying his family and kids. He strongly believes that you have to keep balances in your life and go off limits! As for his job he believes that songs ought to convey messages! "You have to offer your best lyrics to the people and they will love it!"

He declares he is 100% faithful to what he is doing and seems as if he has not realized his big success! What he really means by that is that he does not make any abuse of his fame, he just experiences that as something natural and he thinks that what he does is not exactly art but true work offered to the people with honesty!
